Renu is the Joint Managing Director of HDFC. She joined HDFC in 1978 and has held various responsibilities in Mumbai and Delhi.  Renu started her career in the legal and credit department at HDFC and over the years has grown to become the head of the lending business in HDFC.  

Currently, she is responsible for the all-India lending operations of HDFC, covering both retail as well as corporate lending.  This includes framing of policies and strategies relating to mortgage lending by HDFC, development of new retail products, expansion of branch network and other channels of distribution. Responsible for the budgeting and Management Information Systems (MIS) function of HDFC which includes setting goals and targets at the national, regional and branch levels and monitoring of the actual performance against the budgets.

She has been on the board of Feedback Ventures since June 1997, making her the longest-serving independent director of the company.
